We have just returned from sunny Dubai feeling impressed by the fashion week there. These were not just a few days of Dubai fashion but the full-fledged Arab Fashion Week Dubai.
That week was meant to be the best and only fashion week of the Arab world. The best designers and young talents competed for the right to take part in this event; because from now on Dubai will join the line of top fashion weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris. Dubai is a new fashion capital which unites tradition and innovation. Participants from 22 countries of Europe, Africa and members of the Arab League came to Dubai (United Arab Emirates) from 31 October to 3 November to show fashions of the new spring/summer 2016 season.
Arab Fashion Week Dubai was not only the meeting place for local designers but for international young talent! The Fashion Week served as the launching pad for start-up brands and a blend of Ready-to-wear & Haute Couture. From now on we can appreciate the best clothes collections from the best young designers twice a year in Dubai. As we have learnt, more than seven million votes were cast in on-line voting for this year’s finalists!
MarioBoselli, the Honorary President of the Camera Italiana Della Moda, and the Arab Fashion Councilstated,”Arab Fashion Week is the new landmark of the Fashion Industry and to be on the Calendar alongside to New York, London, Milan & Paris”.
The Arab world has a huge economic potential and the Fashion Week promotes the participant countries. Recent years have seen the Arab world focusing on luxury goods (clothes, technology, cars, equipment).
“It will give a platform from which talents from across the 22 Arab countries will be given a global platform. “It will offer them exposure to the intentional world,” said RaffaellaCarnevale chief PR officer.
Arab Fashion Week 2015 took place in Dubai, the holiday resort and the city of skyscrapers. Most of the shows were held at Park Hyatt Hotel. By the way, we stayed there using our VIP 35% discount from the room rate. Huawei, a technology brand, displayed collections with an innovative touch. An interesting collaboration! Soon, with support from technology brands, we may also see fashions incorporating wearable technologies.
We have been to several shows and we now have our own opinion about new designer collections. Most of all we admired the really royal attire from Selphie Bong. That was a fantastic show!
Designer of American-Italian-Egyptian descent GaidaCurti’s collection was the epitome offemininity, sex and elegance. The articles are mostly in pink, which highlights the features and skin color of any fashion-conscious woman. The audiences were delighted with the delicate pink gowns, some of which seemed to be reserved right after the show. One can buy clothes from Giada Curti in Rome (Piazza di Spagna – Rampa Mignanelli,12; PiazzadellaTrinitàDèMonti, 16 ) but a shop is likely to be opened in Dubai soon.
Designer MireilleDagher ran her collection under the motto “Live by the Sun, Love by the Moon”, which fitted perfectly with the idea of the Fashion Week in Dubai, the city known for its beauty, the city that is busy in the daytime and mesmerizing at night.
We would also like to mention a stylish collection from Abed Mahfouz.
A lot of stars graced the red carpet but we best remembered the beautiful TV presenter Azra Akin, who also holds the title of Miss World.
Besides, Arab Fashion Week was memorable for shows from local designers that Arab beauties adore: Atelier Leon Leon, Abed Mahfouz (a top three designer in Lebanon, whose clothes can be found in the wardrobes of wives of sheiks and Arab princes, European actresses, and diplomats’ wives; you can have a look at his collection and buy something at Tabco Building, Beirut), AdelinaRusu, SylvioKovacic, Tony Ward, Tiiya by Alanoud, Anne de Grijff, who showed their collections of the spring/summer 2016 season. We are sure that these designers will soon conquer boutiques of the world and we will see their gowns on red carpets and yachts, since most of the clothes were created for summer vacations and seaside resorts.
