3. CHAMONIX, FRANCE

It is a luxury resort at the foot of Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps. Its ski trails have been popular since last century because Chamonix hosted the first Winter Olympics in 1924. In preparation for the games, a total of 22 km trails were laid and facilities renovated. Also a new breathtaking downhill run from the mountain height of 2807 meters was laid. These trails are still thought to be the longest ski runs in the world.

4. KITZBÜHEL, AUSTRIA

Kitzbühel is known as the most popular ski resort in the Austrian Alps. It dates back 700 years and its chalets and hotels attract jet set from all over Europe. Many famous skiers fly to Austria on their private helicopters specifically to Kitzbühel to see the sunrise in the Alps. This is romantic and daring. People have nicknamed these daredevils who run downhill with the first rays of the rising sun “yetis.”

5. VAIL, USA

This Colorado ski resort has won recognition of the Americans for the variety of entertainment it provides on its vast territory. More than 22,000 sq m! Vail offers the widest choice of winter sports, events and leisure activities. Here you can also find museums and modern art galleries. This resort is ideal for a family vacation where you can take a ride on a dog sled to your hotel and drop into an elegant restaurant on the way.

6. CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, ITALY

This is the most beautiful mountain ski resort in Italy which secured its fame as the European skiing center way back in the 1960s. In 1956 it hosted the Winter Olympic Games, in preparation for which some new ski trails had been laid. The place is so photogenic that photographers and travel bloggers adore taking pictures of its magnificent views.

7. ZERMATT, SWITZERLAND

Zermatt is a well known Swiss resort which is ideal for a romantic holiday due to its relaxing and cozy feel. Zermatt does not usually host sports competitions, there is a local ban on industrial enterprises in the area and motor vehicle traffic is restricted. 9. LAKE LOUISE, CANADA

This is another Canadian resort. Canada seems to have a good lead in mountain entertainment. It is hardly surprising considering the fact that the larger part of the country lies in the Snow Belt. Lake Louise was created by glaciers and it is located in Banff National Park. Lake Louise Mountain resort is considered the most picturesque in the world. 10. STOWE, USA

This resort has only recently made it to the top ratings although it has been around for quite a while. It is located in Vermont and it is good for any type of holiday, from relaxing to extreme. You will find here steep slopes and beautiful valleys for a walk or drive. It is a popular tourist destination with more than 100 shops, 60 restaurants and 50 cafes. People come here for at least a week to enjoy a good vacation in the mountains.
